Biography

Danny Ramirez was born on September 17, 1992 in Chicago, Illinois to his Mexican mother and Colombian father. At the age of seven, his mother relocated he and his sisters to Miami, where he would spend the rest of his primary and secondary schooling. Growing up, Danny had the ambition to become a professional soccer player, and a professional football player before that. He played both soccer and football while attending Miami Coral Park Senior High School (also known for blooming such acts as Pitbull, Jose Canseco, and Danny Pino). Danny had mentioned in an interview with Esquire that he had broken his collarbone during a football game and forged a doctor’s signature so he could finish the season. After graduating in 2011, he played midfield for the men’s soccer team at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he would sprain his ankle his freshman season. On his nineteenth birthday while he was still sidelined, he was approached to become a soccer extra for The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which was shooting on the field next to his soccer team. Danny agreed and ended up sitting around on set watching Riz Ahmed, which would encourage him to start studying acting. The decision led Danny to drop out of school and move to New York City, where he would start modeling and enrolls at NYU Poly. He would later find out he would be able to audition to study at NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts; and after delivering a fantastic monologue, he was accepted.

Danny made his professional debut as Moving Van Kid #1 in an episode of the television series “The Affair” in 2015, followed by a quick appearance in an episode of the first season of “Blindspot” the next year.ÂIn 2017, he played the role of Paolo in a season five episode of the popular Netflix series “Orange is the New Black”. Danny would land his first recurring television role as Wes on Marvel’s FOX series “The Gifted”, which starred Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker. The next year, he starred in his first short film One More with Gloria Zingales, as Miles Franco. The release of Assassination Nation would mark Danny’s feature film debut playing Diamond opposite Cody Christian, Maude Apatow, and Bella Thorne. The same year, he would portray Mario Martinez, the older brother of one of the protagonists on the Netflix series “On My Block” during its first two seasons. Danny’s next film came in the form of Robert Patrick’s comedy thriller Tone-Deaf, where he played Rodrigo in 2019.

He would also play the role of Jake opposite Simon Pegg and Juno Temple in Lost Transmissions, a drama following a music producer with schizophrenia going off his medication and his friends help commit him into a psychiatric hospital. Danny would join his Assassination Nation co-star Odessa Young for the crime thriller The Giant, in which he portrayed Brady. The film revolves around a teenager’s small town life being changed forever when a series of murders begin on the same night that her missing boyfriend suddenly reappears. He would next play Lucha for the independent film Silo, a dramatic thriller following a teenager named Cody when he becomes the victim of a grain entrapment accident. In 2020, Danny danced his way into the role of Chip for the musical Valley Girl, a remake of the 1983 film, which stars Jessica Rothe, Josh Whitehouse, and Chloe Bennet. The same year, he served as a cinematographer for two Gucci Guilty advertisements and served as the director and editor for one of them as well.

2021 began with the short film After Hours, in which Danny plays Brad in the comedy, followed by playing Timothy Reyes in This Is Not a War Story, a war drama following a ragtag group of veterans in New York deal with the aftermath of war by creating unusual art. In March 2021, Danny officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe portraying Joaquín Torres, Sam Wilson’s new ally and Air Force lieutenant, in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Chon Noriega, UCLA film professor stated of his character: “a lot of the excitement had to do with the introduction of a new character, Joaquín Torres, and the sense that he would evolve into the next superhero.” Feeding off that, the show’s head writer Malcom Spellman stated Torres had meatier scenes that unfortunately had been cut down, he would’ve had a more prominent storyline if there were ten episodes instead of six, and that there could definitely be a future for his character in future MCU projects.

Danny’s upcoming projects include the long-awaited release of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, in which he plays Fanboy, a recruit in the Top Gun class with Goose’s son, Rooster. The film is currently set to be released on November 21, 2021. He will also star in the dramatic thriller Root Letter, based on the novel by the same name. Danny stars as Carlos Alvarez, an impoverished teen from a fractured home, receives a desperate note from Sarah, a pen pal he lost touch with a year ago, he uses her letters to solve the mystery of her disappearance and crimes she may have been a part of. The film is currently in post-production. He is currently in New Zealand taking meetings for his next project, in which he wrote, titled Baton, which is a first-generation family drama set in Miami, following two siblings trying to follow their own American dreams.

Danny created a production company named Pinstripes with two friends from NYU.
